Liberty Fabric Shopping in Tokyo Japan 2019

Share this on:

I made a dream trip to Tokyo Japan last year and was so fortunate to have the chance to go back again this year! In this 2019 edition I want to share a few additional fabric shops I visited this year that also carries Liberty fabric. If you want to see where I went fabric shopping last year, check out my posts where I covered Liberty shopping in Tokyo and my visit to Nippori fabric town.

A side note if you’re interested on my trip booking this time. I flew with Japan Airlines ( JAL ) and stayed in the Ginza area again but this time at The Royal Park Hotel Tokyo Shiodome.  The hotel room was not as roomy as the Daiichi Hotel Tokyo I stayed at last year but it has an exit from the subway straight to the hotel so it was much easier moving luggage around because the subway exits I saw never had elevator access to ground level.

I took lots of pictures so be prepared for all the loveliness =)

This post will focus on the shops I went to in Kichijoji this time. It is about 50 minutes by train from Ginza but it was well worth it! I found a lot of Liberty prints I didn’t see in the shops I visited again this year. Read my post from last year on how where to find the list of shops that carry Liberty fabric.

1. Yuzawaya Kirarina Keio Kichijoji-Shop – 8th and 9th floors

My first stop was Yuzawaya which a is fabric store chain in Japan similar to Joann Fabric in the United States. This store occupied 2 floors with the fabric on the 9th floor and the yarn, notions, and craft supplies on the 8th floor. This shop had by far the largest selection of Liberty prints I had seen in all the shops I had visited. I read from Google reviews that this store is very busy on the weekends and I totally believe it because even when I went there on a weekday it did have quite a number of of people in the store. Now on to the pictures.

There were so many Liberty prints in this store! These pictures are maybe half of the Liberty section.

They also had this display of items made from Liberty prints. Love the tote bag.

There were lots of cute kawaii animal prints. These are just a few that caught my eye.

These are not Liberty prints but some lovely florals that I couldn’t resist.

2. Hobby La Hobby Les Atre – 2nd floor

My next stop was a Hobbyra Hobbyre shop a block away from Yuzawaya. The shop is inside a department store and is not very big but it carried some prints I couldn’t find in the other Hobbyra Hobbyre shops in Tokyo.

I love this display they had of their applique tapestry kits especially the cherry blossom one on the right made with Liberty prints.

They had a few shelves of Liberty prints by the bolt.

And a drawer of fat eighths and another small one with remnants.

These were my purchases from this shop. The 2 Betsy prints on the bottom right were a rare find.

3. Check & Stripe –  Kichijoji store

My third stop was Check and Stripe. This is a standalone store at the street level about a 10 minute walk from Hobby La Hobby Les Atre.

There were about 8 shelves of Liberty prints but most I haven’t seen at any other store I visited while in Tokyo. Here are a few pictures I managed to take.

I really wanted to buy more but had to resist the temptation. I left with these lovely prints. The Felicite colorways and this pastel Betsy are gorgeous!

4. Country Quilt Market Nishiogikubo Main Store

After Check and Stripe I walked back to the Kichijoji train station and took the train to the Country Quilt Market about 10 minutes away. This is a quaint little quilting shop that carries quilting cotton on the ground floor and Liberty prints on the second. Isn’t the storefront so charming?

The ground floor is quilting cottons and notions. There was a great selection to choose from.

Fortunately I read the translated Google reviews because it said Liberty was actually on the second floor of this shop so make sure you don’t miss it. I actually walked out the first time and went back to hunt for the stairs to the second floor which is to the left of the door as you walk in. There was a great selection of fat eighths and sixteenths.

Finally a special mention on my repeat visit to Nippori fabric town. I was looking for the Liberty Hello Kitty collection printed for the 45th anniversary and found them at Pakira! You can read more about Pakira and Nippori fabric town in my post here. I left a very happy customer =)

I hope you find this list useful when you plan your trip to Tokyo. I would love to hear where you shopped for fabric and your experiences when you were in Japan. Thanks for visiting and happy “mad” Japan fabric shopping!
